⚡ Why it’s great

The Trossachs National Park is a beautiful part of Scotland. Whether you do a rapid charge on your way to Loch Lomond or stop at one of the many hotels with chargers, there’s plenty to do.
While I haven’t visited the Oak Tree Inn (yet!), it has great green credentials — from using biomass and solar for energy to its homegrown produce and circular economy. It offers rooms, dining, coffee, and much more. Check out the experiences if you’ve got a bit of time (everything from water activities to hill climbs to a champagne cruise).
Once you’re out in the Trossachs National Park, there’s plenty to keep you entertained, no matter whether you’re a solo traveller, a couple, have kids in tow, or need to walk the dog.
Maybe you want to climb a hill but don’t want anything too strenuous. The Trossachs has some ‘wee hills’ that offer great views without needing to dedicate an entire day to a hike. If you want to get out on the lake and go for a walk, choose Inchcailloch. It’s accessible by boat from Balmaha (where the Oak Tree Inn is).
If you love nature, you’re in for a treat. Depending on where you go and the time of year, you could see red squirrels, common lizards, ptarmigan, red deer, buzzards, osprey, and so much more.
Bring binoculars! Full list of locations and what you might be able to spot here.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you might want to go canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding on the loch. For something a bit more relaxing, try a (self-guided) forest bathing experience.
✨ Experience
I visited Loch Lomond on an EV road trip a few years back, and we were able to charge right on the edge of the loch. Driving through the area was incredible as we made our way from Fort William to Glasgow.
If you’re on your way to Glasgow, I recommend the Riverside Museum (pictured above). It has some 22kW and 50kW chargers in the car park. It’s a transport and technology museum with plenty of cool things to see. As a bonus, entry is free!
