⚡ Why it’s great

There’s so much to do in Lyme Regis, but my top pick would be to go fossil hunting on Monmouth Beach. It’s a famous spot to find ammonites among the pebbles, as there’s a layer of limestone at the western end called the ‘ammonite pavement’. It’s well worth the walk.

If you want the odds to be in your favour, you can book a fossil hunting tour, many of which take place from or near the Lyme Regis Museum. If you want to do this, the Woodmead car park might be a little easier (5 mins walk to the museum compared to 12 mins from Monmouth Beach car park).

Lyme Regis also has a dedicated Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, in case you need more Jurassic Action.

For non-fossil activities, Lyme Regis is a great place to stop if you, your kids, or your pets need a break and a chance to stretch their legs.

🐕 Monmouth Beach allows dogs off the lead all year round.

I can’t directly vouch for any of the restaurants, cafes or pubs in the area, but there’s plenty to choose from off the Cobb Road (near the car park) or a little further into town near the museum.

✨ Experience

During the Route 57 road trip, which was almost 10 years ago, I stopped in Lyme Regis to charge our Kia Soul EV. We were on the first day of the journey, travelling from Plymouth to Southampton, and I was thrilled to find a charger right on the coast. This is the charger that sold EV life to me.

Parking up and plugging in was an easy experience. It was still so novel that I could leave my car to refuel while going off and doing something fun! It made me realise just how much this lifestyle would suit me.

We walked down to the beach for my first experience of the Jurassic Coast. I’m excited to take another electric road trip to that area again soon. Lyme Regis EV charging is convenient and I want to get amongst those ammonites!
